Records show that racing commenced a lot earlier than local government, which celebrated its 100 years in 1880, possibly 1856 on a race track beyond the Old Casino Railway Station. It is recorded in the Clarence and Richmond Examiner 1861 that the first constituted club raced in Casino during that year. Racing was also conducted on the North Casino Track 3 miles from Casino, later at Round Swamp and on the present location in approximately 1881.Up to 1,000 patrons in those early times travelled for many days, sometimes by boat to attend race meetings. Casino is proud of its racing history and heritage.
